Historic site reimagined as a recreation hub

At Ulry Warner Park, architecture and landscape to connect the past and present. Two distinct pavilions – one for events, one for casual gathering – create meaningful destinations within this historic property, where aviation heritage and natural beauty converge to shape a new kind of public space.

The design responds to the site’s rich character, from its wooded areas and wetlands to its grass airstrip and historic log cabin. Both structures feature opaque entry elevations that choreograph the visitor approach, while soaring mono-sloped roofs create a sense of lightness. The buildings’ material palette of wood and stone grounds them in the landscape while large openings forge connections with the surrounding parkland.

The four-season event pavilion anchors the north end of the site, its arrival framed by a silver maple preserved through careful site integration. Beyond the building’s controlled entry sequence, a dramatic wall of south-facing glass opens the interior to pastoral views. A covered patio extends the gathering space outdoors, providing a sheltered transition between the enclosed pavilion and open lawn.
