This comprehensive fit-out encompassed full dining areas, bar, restrooms, kitchen, back-of-house operations, private dining, and an outdoor patio. The design preserved the brand’s iconic hallmarks, including the beloved gumball machines, while introducing custom touches like neon restroom signage, a striking bar ceiling treatment, and a memorable entry sequence. The space balances the comfort of a classic diner with an artsy, contemporary edge that appeals to campus visitors, families, and faculty rather than students.

Working within the quirky shell conditions of the existing building offered familiarity with the structure alongside the challenge of integrating complex systems seamlessly. What appears as simple ceiling elements on the patio actually houses intricate layers of recessed lighting, heating elements, string lights, and fans, all meticulously coordinated to maintain clean lines. Throughout the space, every ceiling became a complex orchestration of the client’s audiovisual requirements, acoustical considerations, and aesthetic goals.

Operational efficiency shaped every design choice. Through extensive test fits and close collaboration with the client’s operations team, workflows for the food and beverage staff were optimized while maintaining the welcoming atmosphere guests expect. The entry sequence from the hotel streetscape creates a memorable arrival experience, with Cap City’s identity clearly visible from multiple street approaches. The result is a space that feels distinctly Cap City while integrating seamlessly with its hotel context.

The project’s success stemmed from exceptional communication between all parties and our shared commitment to getting every detail right. The client’s operational expertise combined with our design precision resulted in a smooth construction process and a restaurant that truly serves both staff efficiency and guest experience.
