The expansion added 80 guest rooms, an a larger commercial kitchen, and new dining, meeting, and event spaces, bringing the total campus to 230,000 square feet, now the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world. Threading two new three-story buildings through the existing complex required spanning vital hospital infrastructure below grade, which limited what could be built above and shaped the structural approach throughout.

The interior design is organized around how families actually spend their time here, not visiting, but living for days or weeks at a stretch while a child receives treatment nearby. The two-story dining room seats the whole community at once and gives volunteers room to cook for guests. Themed spaces from Columbus institutions, including a zoo area built in partnership with the Columbus Zoo, offer all-weather play for children who cannot leave the campus. Custom art, generous windows, and spaces designed for gathering at every scale give the building the feeling of a home rather than a facility.
