The transformation began with a clear challenge: remove the two dive pools and adapt a space built for aquatic instruction into a flexible workplace, training hub, and media production facility. While the bones of the building were in surprisingly good condition given the harsh environment, changing its function required close coordination with city officials, consultants, and the client to address zoning, parking, and new code requirements related to occupancy and assembly use.

Branding is woven not just on the walls, but incorporated into the materials themselves. Custom fabrics and patterned carpet reinforce the nonprofit’s identity in a way that feels intentional and grounded, not flashy. We tailored acoustics to the scale and purpose of each space: large volumes where pools once sat now host educator training sessions that amplify guest speakers, while focused workspaces and recording rooms balance sound absorption and clarity.

Throughout the process, our proximity to the site and familiarity with the original building helped us guide the client through countless decisions, including adapting to a shifting budget and collaborating across a wide consultant team. The result is more than just a workplace—it’s a functional, welcoming headquarters that supports staff, hosts national events, and reflects the organization’s story at every turn.
