Vanderbilt Legends Club

Growing success meets country club class

When Vanderbilt Legends Club’s membership ballooned from 250 to nearly 900 golfers, this renovation and addition created the social spaces they desperately needed, while maintaining the look of the original clubhouse.

The challenge was real: a clubhouse built for 250 members was now hosting nearly 900. Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee, had outgrown its facilities, and the existing building was showing its age with water damage and outdated spaces. The solution required both renovation of the structure and a carefully planned addition to handle the club’s growth.

Working alongside Troon management and the contractor team, the design focused on what members actually wanted – more opportunities to gather and socialize. The renovation brought casual dining and bar areas, fitness facilities, and enlarged locker rooms, while adding a patio that extends the indoor experience outside. Every addition had to work within the constraints of the hilly terrain and navigate local jurisdiction requirements that added complexity to an already challenging budget.

The real success lies in what you don’t notice. The addition looks like it was always part of the original building, creating a cohesive design that flows seamlessly from old to new. The interior aesthetic took a bold turn from the existing style, embracing a darker, moodier color palette that sets Vanderbilt Legends apart from other clubs in the area. The collaboration between club management, architects, and contractors kept the project moving forward even when water damage ate into the budget and site constraints proved challenging.

The renovated clubhouse now serves both the club’s members and visitors to the adjacent

, creating a hub that brings together recreational golfers and collegiate athletes on the same Tennessee landscape. The project proves that sometimes the best additions are the ones that look like they were always meant to be there.
